Recorder and traverso player Meila Tomé moved to Belgium in 2004 to study at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. In June 2007 concluded the Bachelor Degree in Music and in 2009 concluded her Master degree with Highest Distinction under the orientation of Bart Coen аnd Bart Spanhove. In September 2009, Meila went to study one year in ESMAE (Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo) with the Erasmus European Programe under the orientation of Pedro Sousa Silva. In 2012, Meila finished her Bachelor Degree in Traverso with the Highest Distinction in the class of Frank Theuns, in Belgium.

 

During her conservatory years, she attended master classes and lectures with Dorothee Oberlinger, Peter Van Eyghem, Adrian Brown, Sigiswald Kuijken, Barthold Kuijken, Rachel Brown, Tomma Wessel and Maurice van Lieshoudt. Meila performed as soloist in many concerts halls in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Croacia, Bulgaria and Brazil with orchestras, chamber music groups and as a soloist,  Meila is a member of New Trinity Baroque, Ensemble Minstrel, Ensemble Medimus and is the founder and artistic director of the group Musica Antiqua Neoplantensis. 

 

It was as a six-year-old that Meila started to take regular recorder lessons with Fátima Gouvêa. From 1994 to1996 studied viola da gamba with Cecília Aprigliano. Also studied clarinet from 1998 until 2000 with José Nogueira Júnior. In 2000 started having classes with Karla Dias and Fernando Lopes. With 10-years-old she began to participate in early music festivals in Juiz de Fora and Brasília. In such occasions worked with Rafael Palácios, Karla Dias, Fernando Lopes, Flávio Stein, Alessandro Santoro, Luis Otávio Santos, Natalia Chain, Homero de Magalhães Filho and Ricardo Kanji.

 

Meila also dedicates herself to Brazilian music performance. She was born into a family of musicians, and was directly involved with music since birth. Her first performance, at the age of six, happened in Brasília. She uniquely plays Choro with the recorder, having on her repertory highly solistic pieces, like 1x0, Espinha de bacalhau, Gargalhada, O Gato e o Canário, etc. Participated of the recording of João Tomé’s CD “Piquenique“ and Evandro Silva’s CD in 2004. In 2009 was the guest musician on a TV-show hosted by TV Senado, in Brasília.

 

Meila`s first experience as a music teacher was in 2004, when she taught recorder in BSB musical - Asa Norte in Brasília. Since then, she has taught music privately and gives master classes and lectures on Historical Performance Practice. Since 2010 Meila lives in Novi Sad, Serbia, where she founded Vema [Vojvodina Early Music Association], with the objective to open a path in the local music scene for musicians interested in other forms of classical music and open to different ways of interpretation and approach to each individual composition. She organizes Vojvodina’s first Early Music Festival: Days of baroque music in Novi Sad, all of which will see its 9th edition in September 2023.

Diplomirani muzičar i master umetnosti, muzički izvođač na blok i traverzo flauti, rođena je u Braziliji (Brazilu) 1986. godine. Osnovne i master studije blok flaute stekla je u klasi prof. Barta Koena i prof. Barta Spanhovea na Lemmenes Institutu gde je 2009. godine završila master studije sa najvišim ocenama. U septembru 2009 godine, Meila je kao dobitnica stipendije Visoke škole za muziku u Portugalijiu provela godinu dana na ESMAE (Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo) gde je pod programom Erasmus European studirala kamernu muziku kod profesora Pedra Susa Silve i još jednom stekla zvanje Master. Nakon završenih studija blok flaute i po drugi put stečenog zvanja Master , Meila odlučuje da se specijalizuje za izvođenje na još jednom instrumentu - traverso flauti, te upisuje studije takođe u Belgiji, da bi 2012 godine diplomirala na odseku traverso flaute sa najvišim ocenama u klasi profesora Franka Tojnsa (Frank Theuns).

 

Tokom svog muzičkog obrazovanja Meila se takođe usavršavala se sa eminentnim umetnicima među kojima su Dorotea Oberlinger, Peter van Hejgem, Adrijan Braun, Zigisvald Kajken, Bartold Kajken, Rejčel Braun, Moris van Lishaut i drugi.

Kao izvođač na blok i traverso flauti, Meila je veoma aktivan izvođač kako na polju kamerne muzike tako i kroz solističke nastupe. Nastupala je na koncertima i festivalima u Nemačkoj, Francuskoj, Portugalu, Hrvatskoj, Brazilu, Belgiji a od 2010. godine je često prisutna i na novosadskoj sceni, gde svojim izvođačkim i organizatorskim radom promoviše i podupire istorijsku interpretaciju muzike ranijih perioda.

 

Pored muzičke interpretacije, Meila takođe doprinosi obogadenju domade muzičke scene svojim organizatorskim radom. Osnivač je i idejni tvorac Vojvođanskog udruženja za ranu muziku - VEMA i prvog festivala rane muzike u Vojvodini -“Dani barokne muzike u Novom Sadu. Ovaj četvorodnevni festival je za svojih nekoliko godina postojanja novosadskoj publici i studentima kroz mnogobrojne koncerte predavanja i masterklase stigao da predstavi značajne interpretatore rane muzike iz Belgije, Nemačke, Portugalije, Španije, Hrvatske i Srbije, među kojima su Predrag Gosta, Srđan Stanid, Karolina Bater, Marie Verstraete, Goedele Mons, Julia Miller, itd. Takođe je osnovala prvi i jedini ansambl za ranu muziku u Novom sadu: Musica Antiqua Neoplantensis
